Best call I’ve had this week
Wednesday just before 5 pm, I received a call from a stranger. My Truecaller swiftly snitched their name and you could see my gentle smile when I heard the angelic voice that followed her cute name.
Hello? Am I speaking to Elvis Gwaro
Hi Elvis, My name is Sasha (not her real name). I’m calling you from Giants Creative Agency (not their real name either), are you in a position to talk?
How could I say no? I walked out of the office to get enough distance between me and the nearest workmate because I had already deciphered what was about to happen.
I came across your LinkedIn profile and was impressed. We are looking for talented individuals like you. We have a good opportunity to offer you if you’re open to hearing us. Would you mind sharing your portfolio and CV?
No, I don’t mind. I’ll send it before the end of the day.
Okay, thank you, Elvis, I’ll send you my email and follow up with you tomorrow. Have a nice evening.
I hang up the phone and walked back into the office excited. I promise you the conversation was flirtier than that. ????
Ladies and gentlemen, that is called poaching. It’s when a company sees your potential and tries to get you to leave your current workplace and instead work for them.
I never thought I’d ever be in such a position. It’s flattering.
I attribute this to being lucky enough to work with some ultra-creative individuals, so I won’t take all the credit. But one thing I believe contributed to my being seen as a valuable professional is my LinkedIn profile.
Since January, I’ve been making small improvements and posting niche-specific content every now and then just to sell my worth. And it seems to be finally paying off.
Interestingly, this is the second opportunity I’ve gotten in the past 2 weeks. I guess I’m on a roll.
Here’s the deal.
LinkedIn is where companies can find you. It’s the biggest opportunity to enhance your employability. It has served me well. It can do the same for you.
So you need to get your LinkedIn sh*t together. And here’s how in 5 simple steps…
- Use a happy, professional, and recent profile picture.
- Craft a compelling (non-corky) headline to describe you.
- Fill out your LinkedIn profile thoroughly.
- Publish topical content consistently to showcase your skills.
- Get recommendations from colleagues and clients.
Do that continuously for months and see your inbox get lit.
Jia Jiang: Founder of Rejection Therapy
Jia Jiang was once a software developer, but he left his job to pursue his dream of becoming an entrepreneur. However, he found that his fear of rejection was holding him back from achieving his goals.
To overcome this fear, he decided to launch a personal project called “100 Days of Rejection,” in which he would deliberately seek out rejection in various forms each day for 100 days.
During this project, Jiang pitched crazy business ideas to strangers, requested “burger refills” at a fast-food restaurant, and even asked a police officer if he could drive his patrol car.
His goal was to desensitize himself to rejection and become more confident in his ability to handle it.
The project quickly gained attention online, and Jiang used the momentum to launch a successful startup called Rejection Therapy, which provides training and coaching to individuals and organizations on how to handle rejection and build resilience.
Take Away: You can turn your challenges into business opportunities.
Jiang realized his fear of rejection was his biggest hurdle to success and decided to fight it while documenting his journey.
Fear of rejection is a problem for many people. That’s why the project gained traction on social media; many people could relate.
With an audience already in place, Jiang simply made the extra step of turning it into a business.
Today, he’s been featured in TED, Forbes, CNN, and the like. He also packaged his experience in the book; Rejection Proof, which has sold thousands of copies.
What challenge is preventing you from reaching your dream life?
If you know it, face it head-on, document your progress, and maybe, just maybe, you'll be onto your next million-dollar opportunity.
Ajira Spark Program
As companies continue laying off workers who can be replaced with AI, a new industry is emerging that could be the best place to shift your focus if you’re affected.
The development and widespread use of AI technology requires massive amounts of data to train machine learning models. This data needs to be labeled, cleaned, and organized to create high-quality training sets that can be used to train AI models.
Guess who’s responsible for this training?
It’s not intimidating at all. As long as you can use a computer, you’re good to go. And here is your first opportunity to venture into this rapidly growing space…
Ajira Spark Program is an AI training program that equips you with skills in training AI. The training is a mere 2 weeks – which again tells you how easy it’s to grasp. Once you’ve successfully completed the training you will be deployed on a host of online paid projects.
If you’re interested in this, or have nothing to do at the moment, why not give this a try? It might put you on a path you’d never have imagined.
Go to Ajira Spark Program to sign up.
That’s it for today.
See yah next week! ????
